Dear Ones,
I had an inspiring, energizing time at the Chuckanut Writers Conference here in Bellingham over the last couple of days. I feel very lucky to have such a great event to attend in my own town; I look forward to it every year. This year I especially loved the workshop on “Tarot, Divination, and the Writing Life” by former Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna. I had the pleasure of giving her a copy of the Gaian Tarot for her collection. During her closing talk (photo below), she mentioned our mutual friend Waverly Fitzgerald. I gasped. How can you not love these kinds of synchronicities?
If you’re local to the Bellingham area, please join me at Village Books today, June 29th, at 5 PM to hear my friend and mentor Christina Baldwin speak about her book The Beekeeper’s Question. It’s one of my all-time favorite novels, and Christina is such an engaging speaker. I hope to see you there.
If you can’t be there in person but you’re looking for your next great read, I highly recommend TBK. My book club loved it too! Read all about it here.
One of my core principles is the knowledge that the creative arts can transform us, soothe our roughened spirits, and inspire us to action. It’s why I love hanging out with people who write and read, who make art and look deeply at art, who move and dance and sing and express themselves in all kinds of creative ways. The necessary arts.
If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know I’ve been working on a new deck called the Sacred Wheel Oracle for quite a while now. In today’s post, I’m sharing the six cards of the suit of Summer with my paid subscribers. I’m keeping these images behind the paywall for now in part because they’re a work-in-progress and I’m not ready to let them lose on the internet at large. I’m actually in the process of redoing one of the cards I finished last summer, the animal companion card for the suit of Summer, the Bee (such a nice synchronicity with Christina’s book!).
