Dear Ones,
I found sweet young nettles growing by the side of the path through our local woods last week. Those tender little ones have quite a bite! Seeing them never fails to put a grin on my face. I appreciate them for their trickster energy — like dandelions, they hold potent medicine, yet it’s easy to dismiss them as a nuisance or a weed. I included nettles in the Gaian Tarot Teacher card and later drew them as the Ace of Earth for the Herbcrafter’s Tarot. This week I’ve been drawing them once again, as the Plant Ally for the suit of Spring in my Sacred Wheel Oracle, a work-in-progress.
Before I share the “Five Green Allies” spread that Carolyn Cushing created back in the day, I wanted to mention that I’m sharing a Gaian Tarot Card of the Day almost every day for the next month or so. It’s a celebration of the publication of the new edition of the Gaian Tarot, coming up at the end of April. You can find my “Card of the Day” posts in Substack Notes, which is easily accessed through the Substack app. In a browser, you can find my Notes here. I’m cross-posting to Instagram and BlueSky.
“Five Green Allies” Spread by Carolyn Cushing
Back in 2010 when the Gaian Tarot was first published, my friend and tarot colleague Carolyn Cushing was inspired by the Teacher (Hierophant) card to create a “Five Green Allies Spread.”
